Quakers: Surrey-Hampshire Border Area

I have just added a new link in the sidebar menu to the right to the Quakers in the World ‘Portal’, which was launched in May 2010.

The intention of that website is to provide access to high quality information and resources for everyone who wants to know more about what Quakers have done and are doing in the world – and why they are doing it.

I have just added another “plug-in” by way of experiment.  You can click on the Scheduler-Calender tab in the top horizontal menu to access it. See if you prefer it to the one in the sidebar. (I think it’s better.)

I haven’t worked out how to incorporate a ‘Venue’ field in the Agenda view, to save one having to include a mention of the venue in the event title.

I have implemented this ‘prototype’ website using ‘WordPress’. Feedback welcome.

I’m trying a new calendar ‘plugin’, headed Forthcoming Events. It lists events in date order and colour-coded according to which FMH the event occurs at.

Disadvantages: no automatic post is produced; there is no explicit ‘venue’ field, so you have to remember to type in the venue.

HOVER, USING YOUR MOUSE, OVER THE EVENT’S TITLE in order to see the details of the event, which appear in a ‘drop-down’ box.

Only registered users can enter events: to do this they will have to log in (see bottom of right-hand sidebar) and then click on Events Calendar in the left sidebar menu of the new page (Dashboard) that comes up. I suggest that there ought to be one person as the main administrator (currently me) plus one or two other people with similar adminstrator-level powers to act as a stand-by in case the main administrator is indisposed. Also suggested is one or two people from each LM with lower level (i.e. subscriber) privileges allowing them to enter events but not directly put up posts.

Also New: Newsletter page with germane extracts from the Area Newsletter – to be confirmed.

1. Are you happy with the domain name http://quakers-surrey-hants-border-area.org.uk?
   (No ‘www’ for sites implemented using WordPress.)
2. If LMs send me an image they want displayed as their icon in the sidebar, I’ll resize and then upload them.
3. For illustrative purposes, I have included an extra page (with an image of two dogs!) that can be accessed under the ‘Woking’ tab or menu item. If you like, I can include any number of such nested pages under individual LM pages.
4. I have just started a CELTA course to teach English as a foreign language, and anticipate been very busy until Christmas.
